I prefer a minimalist home environment, so there is usually only a mattress in my room. However, finding a suitable bedside table with the right height has always been a concern for me. Therefore, the idea of designing a bedside table that fits different bed heights was born.

In contemporary art, there are also many sculptural artworks inspired by "totems." These sculptures simplify the totem while preserving the size contrasts of each module in space. Additionally, these artworks retain a rough texture in materials, such as the coarse textures of rock and metal, adding to the primitive beauty of the art pieces.
Therefore, I want to incorporate a sculptural feel into the piece, shaping a rugged appearance that emulates the raw texture of rocks. However, due to the weight of actual rocks and the need for easy stacking, I need to find a material that can simulate the texture of rocks while being lightweight

Set two groups of formulations as control groups to test their hardness, toughness, and roughness under different formulations

Through comparing different ratios and combinations of materials, I found that if cement is added, the papier-mâchIJ becomes relatively fragile and is not suitable for direct pouring and molding. Additionally, the hardness of the mixture with cement does not significantly differ from the performance of the mixture without it.
Therefore, I don't need to add any other ingredients; just paper pulp and PVA glue are sufficient. However, to ensure consistent quality in every detail, I still need a stable core

I created several small-scale models and a life-sized mock-up to confirm the visual effects of the side table in both digital and real-world sizes. Based on critiques, I'll need to refine the form later, making it more organic. Additionally, I need to incorporate a structure that provides stability for stacking
Firstly, I used CNC to cut out the required shapes on foam and adhered them together using glue. After drying, I applied paper matche. Prior to cutting, I had already reserved spaces for the light bulb and wiring. In terms of color selection, I maintained the original colors of cardboard and newsprint to highlight the sustainability of the materials. The application of paper matche was done in two stages: the first application covered the upper half, and after it dried, I supplemented the remaining parts.
